High-spirited conversations + great brands + pretty Park City = The Big Gear Show
The Big Gear Show displayed its colors with a lineup of brands and the people who exhibit and represent them for an enjoyable, old-school trade show that rewarded all with its authenticity and good time demoing. In its second year, the annual event, tailored to cycling, paddle sports, climbing, and camping, is where BigLife discovered the latest gear during the first week of August.
This invitation-only two-day festivity is post-Outdoor Retailer and is celebratory in its presentation. Brands/Exhibitors encourage retailers and media to test their wares right there! Sure, it’s awesome to see and touch a new e-bike inside a convention center under headache-inducing bright lights (not really). But at the BGS, brands put their products to the test on land and water in the mid-mountain area of can’t-be-beaten Deer Valley Resort. As it should be with SUPs on the pond, bikes on the trails, and packs on backs!
There was fun with the changing weather that benefitted the product testing. But that didn’t stop BigLife from testing e-bikes (wow, JackRabbit), SUPs, and trail shoes. In fact, while sheltering from the rain, BigLife paused to sip new hydration flavors and nutritional supplements (Gnarly Nutrition) and downed a few cups of flavored coffee (yes, it’s delicious!) from Hikers Brew.
After a full day checking out products from legendary brands Yakima, CamelBak, SCARPA, POC, Mountain Hardwear, Red Paddle, Old Town Canoe, and lovely, innovative products from HydraPak, GrandTrunk, HEST, and more, BigLife appreciated being outdoors for a lively happy hour and meeting old friends and new in a far more intimate setting than larger industry shows. It genuinely felt as though everyone was engaged and grateful for the show’s location smack dab in the mountains.
